Summary of this Book...
A secret hidden deep within the walls of the Bastille could topple King Louis XIV if revealed! This is the final story written about The Three Muskateers. Aramis and Porthos plot to overthrow the current King of France. Will D'Artagnan protect his king, or be true to his motto-"One for All, and All for one"? Originally in French, but English translations exist of course.
I especially liked... | ||
Practically everything! Very well written, funny,touching, adventurous-and nothing at all like the movie (y'know the one with Lenonardo Di Caprio?) Read the unabridged version to get the full effect the author intended.
I didn't like... | ||
The author does occassionally go off on a tangent, but so did Tolkien, and those of you who loved his work will enjoy reading this novel. You can safely skip a few pages without missing any of the important stuff. Or, if you really have to, read the abridged version.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Rent the movie so I could complain to everyone who'd listen how much BETTER the book was! And I've gone out and bought all other novels about The Three Muskateers.
The author of this Book...
Alexandre Dumas is a genius. Pity there aren't more authors like him out there.
I recommend this Book because...
If you're going to read anything 500 pages long it might as well be something entertaining AND educational. Though it is a fictitious novel, many of the characters existed (King Louis and D'artagnan for one). Learn a bit about french history (and learn about writing from a master).
