Summary of this Book...
Building characters that readers can identify with easily. A veritable thesaurus of human characteristics, this book offers just the right words to use to describe a character from blemishes to personality traits, and everything in between. Need an authentic spanish name? It's here. How about Irish, or Arabic? They're here too. Need to describe a tone of voice, or perhaps you can't think of a good occupation for your character? All this information and more is at your fingertips with "Building Believable Characters."
I especially liked...
The character questionnaire at the beginning of the book. Whether you begin with an idea of your character in mind, or rely entirely on the book for the information, the questionnaire doesn't miss a thing. You get to know your character so well, you'd almost swear he or she is real!
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Get to work and put these great characters I created into a story!
This Book made me feel...
Less blocked. I'm always trying to find ways to avoid writer's block, and making up a character certainly helps. I began to picture situations these characters would be in.
The author of this Book...
Marc McCutcheon is a writer and lexicographer (compiles dictionaries), who has written several other books, such as Roget's Superthesaurus and the Writer's Guide to Everyday Life in the 1800's.

He resides in Maine, with his wife and children.
I recommend this Book because...
You'll turn to it often! It's not a thesaurus in the traditional sense. I can't begin to describe all that the book contains to fully describe people: facial expressions, styles of dress, personalities, psychology, clubs, occupations, hobbies, vocabularies. . . There is something for eveyrone.
