Summary of this Book...
Alan Moore serves up an amazing version of the Jack the Ripper story and legend, blending the facts of the case with creative fancy and shocking horror. Not for the squeamish. This graphic novel served as the basis for the FROM HELL motion picture by the Hughes Brothers (Menace II Society, Dead Presidents), starring Johnny Depp as the drug-addicted and clairvoyant Inspector Abberline, and Heather Graham as Mary Kelly, last on the list of Jack the Ripper's victims.
I especially liked... | ||
Alan Moore's writing, of course, and also Eddie Campbell's no-frills black and white artwork to show an etchy, unhinged London of the 1800's.
I didn't like... | ||
Eddie Campbell's decision to use uniform frames on every page. I would rather him be a little more creative in that department.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
write a poem about Jack the Ripper. It, along with the movie adaptation, inspired my poem WHITECHAPEL.
This Book made me feel...
that man is by nature, evil. Humanity has to make a conscious decision to be "good"...
The author of this Book...
has written other classics such as WATCHMEN and V FOR VENDETTA.
I recommend this Book because...
It is an entertaining crash course on the Ripper killings, and a good lesson in writing for the comic book/graphic novel format.
Further Comments... | ||
Once again, this book contains graphic scenes and should not be left lying around the house like a TIME magazine or NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC if children are around.
