Summary of this Book...
Milikman's search for his identity (and later heritage) and his struggle for gaining acceptance in society, and more importantly, with his father. The book is really too complicated to summarize. "Toni Morrison has created a fanciful world here-a universe where ghosts exist, where a dead man's bones are kept in the living room, where a young woman dies of hearbreak, and a grown man wills himself to fly....She has an impeccable sense of emotional detail. She's the most sensible lyrical writer around today." -Philadelphia Inquirer
I especially liked... | ||
The symbolism is interesting, with lots of hidden references to the Bible and to African-American slave culture.
I didn't like... | ||
I actually didn't like the book at all the first time I read it. I had to read it for school, and I thought it was horrible. Then I had to analyze it, and I came to like it a lot!
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Burn it, at first, but that's against my principles, so I thought I'd merely let it sit around until my English made us get it out again. But now I'd like to read it again sometime.
This Book made me feel...
Odd. I don't know how to describe it otherwise.

I recommend this Book because...
It's a great learning experience, especially in the modern, black American slave culture. (I know that sounds odd, but trust me.)
I don't recommend this Book because...
You have to be very open minded when reading this book. It's a great culture clash for all of us WASPs, and many of the ideas may and will take time for you to get used to. However, it really is a good book.
