This is a fantastic book of confessional poetry, relaying Lyn’s story from abuse victim, to survivor. I love the honesty and clarity with which Lyn writes. Having been there, a lot of the poems really hit home, for me. I especially liked the way Lyn showed that escaping the abuse doesn’t begin and end with leaving the abuser physically. It is the constant conditioning to be the downtrodden, submissive, ‘perfect’ wife that is the hardest to escape.

I loved this book. I think it is important, both for those who are in this situation and need to know they aren’t alone, to those who have never really thought about this taboo subject before.

If you are in an abusive relationship, this book will help you. If you want to learn a little more about the power of domestic abusers and why women stay with them, this book is for you. If you just love powerful, emptional poetry, this book is for you. It is so good!

Lyn’s honesty. She doesn’t beat around the bush or try to play anything down. She just tells her story because it is hers, and she owns it.

It was painful to read. Having been in a very similar story myself, there were parts that hit very close to home and brought back a few memories.

It is fairly graphic at times. It’s not an easy read because of that.
