Summary of this Book...
Full disclosure: I listened to this book as an audio book through Audible. The Angler is the primary bad guy in the novel. He kidnaps women he is attracted to and may even hold them hostage for years, as he has done in at least one case. This resulted in him fathering a boy who is one of the primary characters (along with the Angler). Amelia is a genetic detective, helping people find their families through DNA and other means. She and her friend, Jessie, were both foundlings (abandoned children, not simply children removed from their home by Child Protective Services). Jessie and her husband used to foster children. They adopted one with autism and stopped fostering to focus on him. Barnes is a police detective who goes to Cuba with his friend and his friend's adult son because they are descended from Cubans and his friend wants to connect with his roots.
This type of Book is good for...
People with a lot of focus and a good memory. It's also good for people with an interest in foster care, foundlings, and finding your heritage. These are not the most common themes in books.
I especially liked... | ||
I especially liked that they discussed foster care, bringing it to people's minds. Perhaps it will encourage some families to begin fostering. I also didn't realize there was a term specifically for abandoned children--Foundlings.
I didn't like... | ||
I had a very difficult time keeping up with all the characters and what was going on. There were a lot of characters and then some were known by more than one name. For example, Amelia is called Mimi by Jessie.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Move on to a simpler book. I selected something with very few characters to give my brain a rest.
This Book made me feel...
Confused at times. It was hard to keep track of who everyone was, where they were, and what hints meant.
The author of this Book...
is probably not one I will read again. I hear she's a New York Times Best Seller, but if this book represents her style, it's not for me.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It was confusing and difficult to keep up with. But if you read her first one and enjoyed it, I would probably recommend this one because you are already familiar with some of the characters.
