Summary of this Book...
This is the true story of Edith Eger: a Hungarian-born Jew who, in 1944, is sent to Auschwitz with her mother, father, and sister, Magda. Her mother and father don't live beyond arrival at the death camp. Edith and Magda survive. With heavy scars that will stay with them always.

This incredible story is beautifully, hauntingly told. There were moments when I had to put the book down and walk away until I regained my composure. It's truly that harrowing a story. But, it's so much more than a tale of the horrors of the Holocaust. It's a story of personal triumph, of personal strength. I love how Edith gains a PhD in Psychiatry and becomes a help to hundreds of people. She is still doing that today in her work as a therapist and in her tours around the world where she speaks about trauma and how to learn to live with it.

Ultimately, this book is life-affirming. It shows us how we all have a choice in life. We can choose how we react to certain events and traumas. It shows us how we can choose how to react to trauma. As someone who suffers from PTSD, I found this book invaluable. It's given me a new perspective that I will try to use in my life.I am so glad I read this book.
This type of Book is good for...
Everyone! Whether you want to learn more about the Holocaust, or the strength of the human spirit, this book is for you.
I especially liked...
The positivity. This woman (who even had a broken back by the time she was freed—although she didn't know for some time that it was broken) overcomes the worst of human nature and chooses to use her experiences to enrich the lives of others.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Google the author and find out more about her. I wanted to find a picture, so I could put a face to her.
This Book made me feel...
Positive. Sad, angry, horrified. But, ultimately, positive.
The author of this Book...
Edith Eger is an amazing lady. On her nineties now, she still lectures and has her own therapy practice.
I recommend this Book because...
It's not an easy read a lot of the time, but it's an important read. So much can be learnt from Edith's experiences and from the choices she makes.
