Summary of this DVD...
This is a Woody Allen film. I got it used at the local used book/dvd store for a few trade credits. It takes place in the 1930's Depression. A young waitress becomes obsessed with going to the movies, as that is the only thing in her life that is positive. She has a menial job and lives with an adulterous, brute of a husband. She supports them both as a waitress in a diner. She escapes a few hours a day to the cinema where she sees a move, The Purple Rose of Cairo. One of the characters in the movie (played by a very young Jeff Daniels) steps out of the film to romance her. The movie star he represents (played also by Jeff Daniels) also woos her and she has to make a choice - to live in the movies or in real life.

This is a Woody Allen film so real life is always the pits. Guess which one she chooses? See the film and find out if you are correct.
I especially liked...
Edward Herrmann, but then again I always like the father from The Gilmore Girls. He's brilliant in this as the lead actor in the movie that Jeff Daniels walks out of.
I didn't like...
Mia Farrow. To me, she is always the same no matter what part she is playing. And I don't really care for her mannerisms. She doesn't garner a lot of sympathy from me and that is the whole point of the film - to feel Cecelia's pain.
Further Comments...
The movie was entertaining and a cohesive story and that's more than a lot of films. It was made in 1984 so maybe then people still knew how to tell a story without a lot of b.s. thrown into the mix.

I still don't like Mia Farrow and I needed to like her in order to fully appreciate this film.
