Terry Pratchett's childhood strikes again. Illustrated by Mark Beech (I admit to assuming Quentin Blake the whole way through!), Crumbling Castle features an anthology of short stories written by Sir Terry in his teenage years (updated and edited only lightly).

There's the titular issue of dragons living in Crumbling Castle (and all Arthur's nights on holiday or visiting grannies), several interludes with what became his first novel, The Carpet People. A rather inspirational caveman, a time traveling bus, and dozens of other wacky adventures.

Aimed at 7-9 year olds, but frankly suited to ANYONE with a taste for the odd.

Roald Dahl fans.

The running streak of sarcasm ever-present in TP's work.

I struggle with all TP's non-Discworld books, and - entertaining though it was - this still wasn't anywhere near the mark. Even allowing for kid-Pratchett.

Grab a Roald Dahl/Quentin Blake. Especially a sarcastic and heavily illustrated one such as Revolting Rhymes.

Has written over 40 Discworld novels as well as collaborations including The Long Earth series.
