Patricia Cornwell is a bestselling author and led the way for novels of this type.

It's good for those who are newer to crime novels. It's a good novel to introduce someone to the exciting world of criminology and forensic science.

The reason I say this novel is for beginners is because this novel was written in 1990. There have been many great advances in science since this novel was written, so its technology (especially regarding DNA in criminal cases) is very outdated. For someone who reads a lot of crime novels, this may get annoying.

Though the technology of the novel doesn't reflect 21st century advancements, the novel is worth the read.
