Strange Meeting

It was late in the evening as I was strolling down the soft luxurious sand that covered the beach. The moon shone down like a flashlight onto my bare feet. Earlier on the sea had been a monster biting, gulping and chewing everything that had been in its path. Now it was more serene. The water had calmed, and was gently rocking from side to side like a baby in a crib. I wriggled my bare feet around in the damp sand. The beach lay like a jigsaw, fragmented into tiny pieces, waiting to be put back together again. The fog and mist still lingered in the air, waiting to blown away.
It was then that they came. Like silver streaks in the sky they drifted over bits and pieces lying on the sand. Nothing was safe. They formed a circle, covering the entire span of the beach, still waiting, but not forcefully. I was what they were looking for, waiting for. At least I was getting it out of the way, it would all be over and done with soon. I took in a deep breath. Slowly they came nearer, almost holding back. What was happening? I would have thought they would have made a move by now. They were like wisps of cloud, floating.
They took in a deep breath, you could see their muscles moving, their jaws tingling with excitement. Out it came. Smells penetrated the air, foul, putrid smells. The gas floated around me, waiting to settle. I began to feel drowsy. After that, all I could remember was them retreating. Their work was done.
