This poem shows the way I felt when I first found out that I was sick.
I know not what lies in front of me.
I close my eyes so I can see
The pain and suffering that I'll feel;
I pray to God that it's not real.

I know not the name of this thing inside,
This sickness within that I must abide.
I feel it growing with every breath,
This disease that may cause a painful death.

I know not of the fate I must bear,
Nor of the thing that will cause my despair.
I fear this will haunt me every day.
I fear this pain will never go away.

I know not the Ones who have helped me through,
But their words are those that will always be true.
They love those they have not met,
For those they hold dear endure the same threat.

I know not the life that I will lead,
But I know, with some help, that I will succeed.
I will beat this disease, just wait and see.
Mind, body, and spirit; I will be free.
