The raw of sugar,
brown and sweet molassic lava,
flows behind my lips
and down my throat.
Not refined,
its grit reminds me
of your presence.
Sweet and raw,
your honeyed lips
and moneyed breath,
your sweet-brown eyes
and sweet-grass hair,
stir my caffeinated heart,
provide my soul with
sugar,
brown
and
sweet.
An odd "love" poem. "Turbinado" was written after going to a presentation of Black Diamonds at the Gypsy Cafe in Tulsa. For those of you who don't do coffee: tubinado sugar is course, brown and unrefined. It's companion poem, "Vodka" [18+] is for all my wonderful Polish friends, near and far .
