I gently remind her of the moral high road,
Of doing things just because it’s right.
She cocks her head to the side,
Unfamiliar with this concept
Of doing something for nothing,
And not understanding why.
I sigh and bemoan the evils of the world,
And why the phrase ‘random acts’
Is followed by violence, not kindness.
Where have our morals gone?
Then I remember One
Who sacrificed everything
For an unappreciative world,
Never once wondering,
“What’s my reward?”
