A poem written for the love I lost
Take Me Away Tonight

A quiet evening alone to lock myself away,
So I can begin to find a way to let myself, let go of you
Since I’m finding the nights are so hard now
If I try to tell myself I’m not in love with you
Because every time I try to close my eyes,
The only thing I can see is your beautiful face
Reminding me
Of the man I used to be

So as I stand outside in this cold winters wind
Longing for the storm which will numb my heart
For the deeper I stare into your eyes
I see how vibrantly clear are these blue skies
No clouds to ease these feelings tearing me apart

Alone I’ll head back into my home
To lie myself down to sleep underneath a canopy of memories
While I listen to the wind knocking anxiously outside
Surrendering to the soft touch of your soul
I let go at this moment and fall into you
Drifting to dream as the tears caress my cheek

At night when I’m lying in bed
I’ll give into this loneliness so I can wonder
How can I let myself heal when these scars hurt so much
How can I begin to let something go-
When there is nothing else dearer in my heart?

When I think about the life we shared
I’ll think about everything I once believed,
I’ll always wonder if there was someway for me to know
If there was something inside your eyes I should’ve known
As I lie here sleeping in the rain
Listening to the wind trying to take me away tonight
