I am listless,
as restless as the ocean
before me.
I wander out into
its murky depths.
The soft sand gives way beneath.
The bottom opens up.
I stumble where I should stride.
The water tugs gently at me,
begging me to enter.
The salty waves
roll off my skin,
soaking me to the core.
The water glistens
in the noon day sun;
yet it is dark and unfathomable.
It yearns to become part of me.
Should I let it?
I am called, pulled under,
and reached for by the
undertow.
There is no air, no breath, no life.
Only cold.
Come to me,
it whispers to my soul.
My soul shivers, and yet
once again, I am
compelled.
I am not resistant.
I go down.
Suddenly,
in one last
desperate attempt,
I struggle for
the surface.
I am fighting the shackles
that fetter me to the
underworld.
I am realizing that
the vast openess
of the day,
would be happiness
to my suffocation.
