SHALLOW GRAVE No time to dig a proper grave for the lifeless body in the trunk, a shallow grave would have to do amid the town's oldest dump. No one would ever think to look for her body in that place, he wiped his hands on his shirt; of her there would be no trace. Moonlight cast its light upon the car he drove away in haste, No eyes but those of hungry rats would know where she was placed. Report her missing? Who's to care? She was not well known in town; Just another lady of the night who teased and brought men down. A common tramp who got her due, He would sleep that night in peace; until another came along his path the killing craze would cease. Yet in his dreamless sleep he saw from the shallow grave there rose a clawing hand, revenge to seek, as the chill night wind blows. Sightless eyes in vain did search for the man who took her life; His evil heart would be her own, cut out with his bloody knife. "A dream!" He thought, as he awoke to the darkness in his room; Too late he felt the pain of hate and met his own eternal doom. The winds blow soft across the land and the moonlight tells no tales; In a shallow grave he lies beside her and listens to her mournful wails. Countrymom 10/23/04 |
