A friend just entered my life a few months ago, helped me mature, and is now leaving.
Entrance,
unexpected yet welcomed renewed joy in
life. Days destined to be overcast until you
my savior, friend,
cut a beam of sunlight through the
unforgiving clouds. My emotional void,
a needed confidant,
slowly becoming complete
due to your cannot-be-thanked-enough
assistance. You underplay your part in
my growth.
Don’t.

Exit,
once again back to the mediocrity that you
my friend, savior,
rescued me. I’m back in the unrelenting
waves, salt slowly eating through the
purpled scabs. Head bobbing in this
isolated ocean, a weighted cork deciding whether to
sink or float in this world. Your laugh
echoes through my mind, your words swim in
my veins, our memories perch on my tear ducts.
I’ll now make it to the grainy safety. Why?
You.
