A poem dedicated to my wonderful mother and her success despite life's tribulations |
My Mother She stands before me a woman So confident and tall College educated Awards adorn her wall I watched her grow before my eyes To who she is today She’s worn so many faces But this one’s here to stay She left an abusive marriage To raise her kids alone Frightened, scared, low self-esteem Was all she’d ever known She turned her insecurities Into power to strive Alone with four children This woman would survive The next phase of her life began She met somebody new He loved her and her children True love that’s known by few She worked hard and went to college And she earned her degree How proud I am of her This woman in front of me She shares her story of violence And the cross she had to bear She says God’s plan for her Is to help those still there When her fingers touch a keyboard And words fill up the screen I can’t help but feel proud But also a little “green” Mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Titles she proudly wears Wife, lover, and best friend To the man with life she shares She stands before me a woman Beautiful, strong, and true Pride overflows my heart When, smiling, I say to you: She’s my Mother |
