A Light in The Darkness

Somewhere a star blasts supernova,
pulses out the end of a cosmic era
and births space for a beginning.

Somewhere a child,
belly full of pride,
turns on the bulb so he can
witness the baking of the cookies
he made with his dying mother.

Somewhere a laser,
held by meticulous hands,
is slicing through a diamond
that will be set in a ring
meant to seal a love bond.

Somewhere a doctor
flicks on his headlamp,
and commences a procedure
that will save a life.

Right here a firefly
flits through my window,
fascinates me with
phosphorescent Morse code,
and I know that there is
a light in the darkness.
