a small part of an idea that has been forming in my head lately
My momma died today. Daddy says that it’s okay to grieve over her having to leave but we should remember the beautiful parts that she left behind. Then he always grabs me up and we look down at Emma. He smiles, somehow it makes me cry though when he smiles like that. I want to cry when he does that and ask him why momma couldn’t stay and instead take me. Whenever I ask him that though he just holds me tighter and says don’t you ever think that, I need you and Emma, what I would do without you? I just think though what are we supposed to do without Momma. During the day it’s easier to pretend like we’re one happy family. But then night comes, and along with night comes the monsters. They want to eat me and Emma. I can't let them though, it's now all up to me to protect her.

When I told Daddy why he found me sleeping outside of Emma's room he got a distant look in his eyes and just said that we would always be protected.
