This is a collection of poems I wrote from 2001 until a month and one day before my mother passed away. I have not edited anything other than the overall journal (not the individual entries) since my mother died.
It is odd how I divide my life into before and after this or that event. I didn't start writing until about four years after my father passed away and I pretty much stopped writing much since my mother passed away.
The distant moon baby I wrote of is eight years old now and doing fine. She has my mother's eyes and my father's name. She lives far away and I met her for the first time in June of 2009.
And so it goes.
When I met her, I also saw my eldest niece at the same family gathering.
I had no idea it would be the last time I would ever see her because she was so young and so beautiful.
I will not add to this book now that mom is gone, but I will continue (I hope) to write poetry now and then. My mom lives on in her16 great grandbabies and in all her children & grandchildren who survive.
