About this Newsletter & Bible Study. We are here to serve God, and serve our Community of Believers. Each of us desires to be instruments of God’s handiwork. We each have something that God has put on our hearts to teach, and preach the Good News of The Gospel. Always…lifting Him up. Expect from Him to meet your needs. With His anointing, we pray the Holy Spirit has His way in our lives. He has placed this in my heart to say, that here in this newsletter, there will be no watering down of the Word, or teaching a social gospel. I care nothing for political correctness. I care about scriptural correctness! Letter from the Editor I ask that you please bear with me, since this is my first attempt to do a newsletter for adults. I teach Bible to children, ages 5-13. I'm also very much convinced that we all need to get back to the basics of the Bible and Christian living. I like to keep my writing simple enough that an unsaved person who might read it, can understand, and come to know Jesus. There are many young Christians who need to learn the basics before being led off into the deep stuff. For quite some time now, I have had the subject of prayer on my heart and mind. The points below are what our Children's Bible Club lesson was about last week. What is prayer? Prayer is a conversation with God. We talk to Him, just like we talk to each other. During my lifetime, I’ve seen and heard people pray. Some pray out loud while others pray silently. When I’m teaching children, I encourage them to be willing to lead in or dismiss in prayer. Of course some of them are shy and don’t want to pray out loud. They’re afraid they will make a mistake and get laughed at. I like to relate a story to them about the first time I prayed out loud in church. It gives them a good laugh and eases the tension. I accepted Jesus as my personal Savior when I was twelve years old. I didn’t have much self-confidence and hated to speak in public. The church we attended was small, and our pastor like to use the young people and encourage them to be active in the services. The first few times he called on me to pray, I’d turn red and shake my head. He’d just call on someone else. Mama talked with me about this. She explained to me that while we’re not supposed to pray fancy prayers to be heard of man, we should still not be ashamed to pray out loud when needed. I made up my mind, the next time Preacher Wooten called on me, I’d be ready. I listened to how others prayed and picked out phrases I thought sounded good. I especially liked the way some folks ended their prayer with these words…”And Lord, go with us to our places of abode.” For some reason, I just loved that word abode. Finally, the big day came. Preacher Wooten called on me to dismiss our service in prayer. “No sweat,” I thought. I prayed my little prayer I had memorized. As I began to close my prayer I said, “And Lord go with us to our places of (I forgot my favorite word)…and Lord, go with us to our places of…(mind was blank)…and Lord, go with us to our places of…and Lord, go “home” with us! Amen. Folks couldn’t help but get tickled at me. I was humiliated. But, I had learned my lesson. From that day forth, I pray from my heart, no matter how humble or broken it may sound. I learned that no matter how we pray, if we’re not sincere, it doesn’t get past the ceiling if it goes that far. Bible study, prayer and faith go hand in hand. Psalm 199:11 “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” First Thessalonians 5:17 “Pray without ceasing.” Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” We should pray in secret Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” We should pray with others Matthew 18:19-20 “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” We should pray for each other James 5:16 “Confess your faults one to another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” We should have the faith that God will hear and answer Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: “For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” We should offer up prayers of request, praise, and thanksgiving. Philippians 4:6-7 “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Grandmapenny, UCN Editor EDITOR’S PICKS
