My second poem. Tell me what you think.
Wintry fluffiness of snow all around,
Left the school children intensely spellbound.
Each made their way to a new height,
As they climbed the bank with much delight.
The sleds they led upon the hill,
Carried them down with shriek and thrill.
This put much brightness into my beautiful day,
As I sat and watched from my horse-drawn sleigh.
A crisp, clean freshness surfaced my delight,
While I gazed in wonderment full of insight.
I saw myself upon that sled.
The past rekindling inside my head.
So many years had come and gone,
Since the day I’d first seen snow upon the lawn.
It was back in the winter of ’81,
Though I don’t honestly remember that one.
Flakes of snow came floating down,
My eyes gazed upward heavenbound.
The sun sparkled from each new flake,
Glistening across the frozen lake.
Those earliest memories like a childhood dream.
My mother ice-skating on a nearby stream.
My childish mind wandering free,
White-covered trees as far as my eyes could see.
I remember so well those happier times.
Sleighs were lined with silver bells and chimes.
Those were times of laughing and glee.
Whatever happened to the happier me?
I watch the faces of those sliding down.
The light in their eyes and the cheer all around.
Will those days be lived again,
Where my mind runs free in this winter wonderland?
Perhaps only beyond the Pearly Gates of Heaven,
Will I become my happy self again.
