For what you believe in -

STANDING TALL

You may have heard the song
About the "Harper Valley PTA"
Where the school board and others
Had so very much to say;

Let me tell you it happens
In every little town;
More fact than fiction -
And it's really got me down!

It seems that a teacher felt
He had to get his point across;
With photographs depicting
America as "lost"...

Influencing his students to
Protest against the war;
I don't think that's what we
Send our children to school for!

It used to be different
When I went to school,
We pledged Allegiance and
Learned the Golden Rule.

We studied hard and
Learned our abc's;
We respected our elders,
Knew how to say "Please".

An officer, off duty, made
An unexpected night call;
For his country he gave
Twenty years and that's not all;

For eight long years
He taught the Junior OTC,
So that sudents could be
All that they could be.

Taking time to care about
The way things ought to go;
He got the proof to tell
Them all that it was so;

A pacifist is teaching
Children in your school;
Now maybe that's not good
That he broke a rule,

But he was standing tall
For what was right;
School is no place to
Have such a blight!

The teacher is still
Teaching, so they say -
But the officer is
The one to pay..

He's leaving town,
Going to leave his home;
He must resign, they
Won't leave him alone.

So be careful where you tread
In this great State;
Where people believe in
Teaching about hate!

I hate to see him go
When put up against a wall
For this good man was
Simply standing tall!

It takes a lot of courage
For someone to take a stand;
I, for one, would be proud
To shake his hand!

The day may come when
The school board and the town
Revise their thinking and
Start to look around

For a man who has
The courage and the gall
To protect their freedom;
Someone who's standing tall.
