A poem dedicated to my brother and other deceased family members.
*Loved One's Playground*
By Mary Winters

I want to go where the apparitions play.
I want to dance upon the ground where they lay,
Just until they rise at the setting of the sun.
To walk with freedom once again..ahh what fun!

I want to revel over times long past.
There'll be no scary faces just plenty of laughs.
Just to reminisce over lives lived and memories saved.
To truly reveal what was carried to their graves.

First to visit with my sweet brother as well as my cousin.
Counting each and every step...there must be two dozen!
No, I was mistaken there are only twenty-two.
Well worth the counting since your loved one awaits you.

For a moment I'm reminded of the purpose of this dreary place.
Bowing my head I clean the headstone, wiping tears from my face.
Young lives taken in sudden harsh ways too quickly fell.
Smiles never again seen and adventurous stories they'll never tell.

With sorrowful heart I must move on.
There're other plots to impose upon.
These are the elders,at least, elders to me,
Who've done things and overcome things I'll never see.

"Hello father with your mischievous grin.
Yes, its your daughter come a visiting yet again."
And I pause here a while then take a look around
At all the gorgeous flowers in this loved one's playground.

I wonder if the world just for an instant sees it as me.
And if only in that heart beat wants to set them free.
For just a blink maybe the lost children will play.
On this sacred ground where I wish I could stay.

Stay a little longer than I ever can.
Until I too can play hand and hand.
Where I can lay quiet to watch the seasons pass.
When I can rid myself of this sadness..finally, alas!

I feel sometimes improper for these feelings of mine
But they will never be shaken not even with time.
As I grow old I'll be sure to continue to past this down.
The love and the safeness I feel in my loved one's playground
