My Jill Will

Somehow she made a difference,

must have been God’s will.

A mom, 2 kids, no home,

would you believe?

Among the troubles in my world,

What a blessing I received

when I received my Jill!

My pudgy red-haired baby

No matter where she went,

Had her “tickle”

and her old yellow dog,

I bought for fifty cents.

Packed her "furnace" in her lunch

to work with Papaw Jim,

tryin' her very hardest,

to be just like him.

So quick to share

what little she ever had;

whatever she got,

no matter how little,

she'd give her Mommy half.

If ever I wasn’t happy,

she’d wipe away my tears.

“Don’t cry Mommy,

It’s yours birfday,”

she’d whisper in my ear.

We called her Jillerella.

The baby of the three,

Get this, do that,

We all asked of Jill.

If no one else would do it

We would know,

Jill will.

I remember chocolate birthdays,

Huntin’ eggs in her bonnet.

And every Christmas,

my Jill would say,

“I got everything I wanted.”

A long and lanky kid,

Stretch pants and polka dots,

Her mommy was a college student,

And she had to miss out a lot.

“If you ride the bus,” I said,

“you won’t have to wait”

“It’s okay – I’ll pick dandelions

if you get here too late.”

She grew up playing word games,

Reading the dictionary,

Soon she was the Boggle champ,

And winner of Pictionary.

Decided then she DID like boys,

and grew prettier and taller.

She tried her best,

and WAS the best.

An athlete and scholar.

Thank-you, God for memories

of my little Jill.

I'm so proud of what she’s become,

But I’ll miss that little girl.

With great reluctance I send

my baby into the world.

What a blessing the world receives

when it receives my Jill.

If anyone can make

a difference in this world,

I have every faith -

My Jill will.

I love you, my Jill–

Show ‘em how it’s done!

If anyone can, Jill Will.

- Mom
