Written for Petite Writer's Port Contest!

TRAPPED!

A little old lady like me should never go wandering around alone! Following Cat Saxon's directions, I found myself in a port that I just couldn't get out of! I silently wonder to myself if I will have to spend my birthday here, and if so, will Petite Writer bake me a shortcake and will anyone remember strawberries and whipped cream?

When I first entered the port, I figured that I would have a quick peek and be out of there in no time. Never did I imagine that I would see a whole room for of GENIE'S, whisking about energetically and smiling as they read wish lists!
Reminded me a LOT of Santa's elves, but these guys and gals were different!

They wore the funniest clothes, and pretty skimpy too, if I may say so. I expected any one of them would start doing the dance of the seven veils!
I felt very overdressed in my jeans and sweatshirt, but it's been COLD in the north country where I live.

While I stood open-mouthed and staring, the Genies danced around, patting each other on the back and smiling a lot. Some were actually laughing! They were all wearing nametags, too, as a way of getting to know one another, I imagine!

Adjusting my bifocals, I tried to read the names as they danced by. There was Weston, Peanut, BBQueen, and Winklett. Oh, they were moo-ving to fast for me to read them all, but one of the Genies was carrying a milk bucket! Now I tell you, it was FULL of GPS!

I said Hello in my friendliest trapped manner, a bit frightened by all the commotion. They all stopped dancing and looked at me. I felt like a sore thumb, in this crowd. PetiteWriter came over and said "don't worry, we aren't crazy! We are just here to celebrate each other! We give each other support and the confidence to WRITE!"

"Oh, my!", I stammered, "I am in so many groups already, that I just want to find my way out of here! Which was is OUT?"

Petite Writer smiled. "There is no OUT! You are now TRAPPED in my port! And it will cost you some gps to be here, haha!"

Having very few gps to my name, and thinking that any I earn, I like to give away to whoever strikes my fancy; I repled: "Now, listen here, missy, I DEMAND to be let out of here! NOW!" in my bravest voice, which sounded a lot to me like Donald Duck squawking!

Petite Writer turned and summoned the Dark Knight and the Dungeon Warden. Now I was really frightened!

To my surprise, they both came over to me and gave me a big HUG! "Good grief", I thought, is it possible that I am trapped in a portfull of lovers? My wildest dreams!"

Before I knew what was happening, I was whisked off to read the Port Rules. Hmmm, well, it didn't sound so bad. In fact, it had merit!

Cheryl and Dottie came over and welcomed me. I was beginning to wonder where I'd sleep tonight, or IF I'd sleep; after reading that I must enter contests which would keep me up all night writing!

Kathleen brought me a glass of lemonade and offered to take me to the nearest chair. I think she was afraid I'd fall over. I thanked her and said no, I was just going to toddle off back to my own port.

Just then Countess Megan Forbes floated in, very regal looking. My mouth dropped open again. I wondered if this was a dream, or if all this really happening!

Xanox and Peanut started dancing again, and soon everyone was back to having fun. The music was really a little faster than I was used to, as I am more of a country music fan than anything, yet it had a mesmerizing effect. Soon I was in the midst of all these people, and they were patting me on the back, too!

Now let me tell you, it's nice to be patted on the back! I felt younger than I had in years! I began to smile, and started thinking about ways I might be able to help people. I didn't have to read reviews, praise the Lord, for my time is limited, but I could still enter contests! I loved that part. So what if I have to give away gps? I do that anyway! Why, I might even win a few!

I saw Petite Writer whispering to Winklett, who nodded and looked in my direction. "Oh, oh", I thought to myself, "what's next?!"

Winklett came over to me. "Petite Writer has asked me to show you the way out of her port, if you do not want to stay" she said.

"Well", I said, "now that I've learned what it's all about, it doesn't sound so bad. The people are really good people, encouraging, caring. Now if I could just get one those little outfits.."

"No problem!" she said; and Poof! My jeans and sweatshirt were replaced by a lovely genie outfit of golden hue. I felt like sunshine! All my aches and pains were gone, and I didn't need my bifocals to see anymore!

I stood smiling as the whole gang gathered around and clapped their hands and cheered. "So I'm trapped", I thought, "I'm no quitter anyway!"

Giving a few pats on the back myself, for all that they have done to help others, I settled in.
Maybe they'll let me out once in awhile to work in my port and keep up with my contests.

I'M A GENIE! A fairy-tale folk who gives and gives, as long as she lives; and I am going to try trapping a few others in here!

With a nod of her head, Winklett had worked magic!
Petite Writert laughed. I think she knows people won't leave once they get in! I was trapped!
