If we could only take away the pain - |
YOUR PAIN IS MINE From the time you were a babe Crying in the night alone I would hurry to your side Your pain was like my own. I wasn't sure just what to do Or if what I did was right - I just held you very close and Rocked away your tears that night. At school, your tears fell often With children's cruel jokes; You didn't have a Dad around So different than other folks. You had to come home after school And help out here at home; You didn't complain at all - But sometimes, when you were alone I heard your cries of anquish, Saw the tears you tried to hide; You tried to keep the pain from me Somewhere so deep inside. So many times in your young life When you bravely tried to shine Hurts tumbled down around you - And yes, your pain is mine. I could tell you to keep trying, To hold your head up high - If I could only make things good And never have to say goodbye. I wish that I could hold you And rock away the tears; I wish that I could somehow Change all the sad, sad years. Instead I watch you struggle, Trying still to walk the line; How much can a young man stand? I wonder - and your pain is mine. Countrymom 11/12/02 |
