Sometimes a dog is smarter than we are - |
LESSON FROM A DOG I had rushed about all morning, A dozen things to get done - I hurried with feeding the pets And proceeded to stay on a run. Big brown eyes and a wagging tail, A hop-about to get my attention; I was in no mood for the dog's antics I was thinking thoughts I won't mention! I had to get done with the chores, Jump in my car and go to work - I didn't have time for anything, I was beginning to act like a jerk! I put the leash on her collar, Opened the door to greet the day - The dog didn't have anything to do, She found a sunny spot to lay! Contented she was to just lay there, I couldn't believe she could be So unconcerned and so - LAZY - She sure didn't get that from ME! The sun was warm and inviting, Just a moment to soak it in - I pulled her up and hurried inside Feeling I just couldn't win! Trying to appease with a dog treat; Grabbing my purse and my keys - I told her to be "a good dog" Yet the look in her eyes said "please?" Ignoring the look and the message She was trying her best to impart, Into the car and down the road For there was work I must start.. It took awhile for the lesson To soak into what's left of my mind; To realize the dog was smarter Than most of us humankind. She knows how to enjoy each moment, How to take the sun while she can - How to accept God's gift of today; Knows that living can be a good plan. All my rushing didn't accomplish The feeling that I'd left behind - I finished work and came home To see if peace I could find. And there she was, tail wagging! Brown eyes and hop-about time - The rest of my day was spent Outside soaking up the sunshine! The lesson I learned was important To restore my sense of self-worth, Needing just to let go for a moment And soak up the blessings of Earth! Countrymom |
