The continuing adventure of Sylance. |
Sylance reflected on the fact that she had been away from her home for almost three months. Chatan was not a bad place to live on the whole but she hated that she had to be so secretive. Her grandmother had stepped up her training and she had learned quite a bit in the past three months. It had come with a price though. Her grandmother was starting to grow weaker. She was worried about her. She did not think she was ready to face Paulis or anyone like him in the near future and in her grandmother's weak state she did not believe she was up to the challenge either. In the last few days her grandmother had also been more worried than usual. She felt that Nanci's followers may be closing in on them and that they may have to leave Chatan soon. This too was quite dangerous as they could come across them in the forests between Chatan and the nearest town. At least in Chatan her grandmother had a few friends that could possibly help them. "Sylance! We must get started again!" her grandmother bellowed from the window. Never one to disobey her grandmother when she could help it, as she knew her grandmother's wrath, she hurried inside to start her lessons again. They practiced well into the night until her grandmother was finally too tired to go on any further. After her grandmother was safely asleep, Sylance quietly exited through her window and made her way to the nearby pond. She arrived to find the area around the water empty and only the moon reflecting on the it to keep her company. She sat on the soft, fragrant grass and took her journal from her knapsack. She started to write about her day and was so lost in her thoughts that she did not hear the man approach from behind her. He slowly started to put his hand on her shoulder. His soft touch made her jump and she was so startled she nearly dropped her journal into the pond. The man laughed softly. "Edward! Don't do that to me!" she exclaimed loudly, "you scared the..." He cut off her rant with a kiss. "I'm sorry, Sylance my darling," he said with a smile. "You just looked so beautiful sitting there and writing, I almost didn't want to interrupt. I thought that perhaps a soft touch would be better than just announcing my presence. Can you ever forgive me?" he asked with a boyish grin. She sighed trying to hide her smile, "Oh, I suppose I can forgive you this time." "Thank you, mi'lady! I shall forever be indebted to you," he said as he swept her into his arms for another kiss. Neither saw the man watching them from the trees with a smile on his face. He chuckled to himself as he went off to report what he had seen to his boss. She stayed with Edward at the pond until the sun came up and then rushed home. She hoped she had not stayed too long and that her grandmother had not yet awakened. She had nearly gotten caught several times and her grandmother would be furious with her. Her grandmother could not understand how in love she was and Sylance knew that her grandmother would forbid her to see Edward again. As she climbed through her bedroom window she heard her grandmother call for her, "Sylance! Wake up, girl! We must have breakfast and then start on your lesson!" "I'm coming, Grandmother, I just have to get dressed," she answered as she started changing her clothes. She washed her face with the water from the basin and went to meet her grandmother. |
