It was her curse for the mistake she hadn’t made... |
She She woke up starving. From that she knew, tonight was the full moon. Slowly she walked along the river paving the way with a simple birch stick. She lived alone, she was blind and she was a vampire. It was her curse for the mistake she hadn't made. She was born in a small village at dark, cold November night. People always said she isn't an ordinary child and it's a bad omen. She was raised by her mother and never knew her father till he came taking away all her dreams. She was 24 when she met him for the first time. Now she stood up to her knees in the water listening to the sounds of night. Why he had to come? "I am your father. You are my daughter. I am a vampire and so do you," he said. "But..." "Your mother is a mortal woman. Therefore your vampire skills will show after you lose virginity," he continued. "No! I don't believe a word!" she cried "Don't ever get married if you don't want him to be dead by morning!" These were his last words. She hadn't seen him since that. But always felt beside her. She shuddered when plunged into cool water. She didn't tell her mother that she had met her father. Now she knew she should. She found her mother dead, with two small holes in her neck the same morning she discovered the truth about herself... She was a vampire. She still is. Why it had to happen? It was a full moon night when she got to know a man. Everything changed when she realized what she has done. She laid on the bed and next to her a body, dead, without blood. Every drop of it was sucked out... Sucked by her. She dived. She felt the streams of cool water touching her body. Thousand of times she wanted to sink in this river... but couldn't. Vampires are immortal. When she saw his dead body lying next to her she closed her eyes wishing not to see again. She took a bottle of vodka - it was first that caught her eye - and broke it. Intoxicating liquid spilled over the floor. She took one fragment of glass and put out her eyes. A heart-rending cry broke from her throat. She came out from water and settled on the bank of the river. He had to come soon. She felt that. She felt him ever since. "Good night, darling." "I was expecting you." "She's in the cave." "I hope you didn't kill a child, father." "No. I wouldn't dare." She stood up to go. "Wait, dear," he stopped her gently touching her hand. "What, father?" "For how long has it been going on?" his voice went down becoming smooth and gentle. "I've never counted. But you should know it better." "Why are you doing this to me?" "Why?" She wasn't surprised by his question. "You ask me why, father? I've never asked you to come. I've never asked you anything." "Perhaps that is why I come here every time the full moon shows up in the sky..." "Perhaps, father. Good night." "Good night, dear." She heard cries coming out from her refuge. "A child. Again. He never keeps his promises. Never did." She smelled girls' young blood without seeing. Then she did what she had if she wanted to survive. |
