We have miles and miles to go Dad is driving very slow First we stop and look around Seeing all the sights in town; Cars are lined up way behind Mom has almost lost her mind! Count the green cars she cries Or all the pretty butterflys - We have left our old abode Heading down that long road; Bathroom breaks at every mile Dad's forgotten how to smile! "Have we got there yet?" Is ringing in their ears - Parents have their wayward years They're driven almost to tears! Micky D's the place to eat, A stop for lunch can't be beat! Order hamburgers and fries, Kids just care about the prize.. Once again back on the road Still carrying a heavy load, What did they forget to bring? Seems like they have everything! A road trip could be fun If construction didn't come At the same time we plan A vacation on the land. Dad now driving very fast; Hoping he'll be there at last - Sirens and a flashing light Means we won't get there tonight! Policeman with a shiny gun Writes a ticket for someone; Dad shakes his head, tear in eye As he waves the cop goodbye. There are miles and miles to go When we get there, we don't know Country is so big and wide Glad that we are side by side. Over mountains, lakes and field To America's heart we yield; Proud of our great free land We are there, we understand! We have reached our destination; Traveled all around the nation - Camping out at Yellowstone But we dread the trip back home. "Are we there yet?" is the cry They will hear till the day they die; If they hear again that phrase They'll stay home all their days! |
