What I see when I look out my window |
Out my window The pink and blue haze of the setting sun casts a glow over the landscape Streaks of color reflect the last rays of the sun Pockets of purple dot the sky Out my window The leaves of the trees obscure everything in the distance Creating a smooth sea of green leaves The color green is defined in all the different leaves and needles Blue-green, forest green, pale green, dark green and many more animate the yard The bamboo grows tall, reaching for the sun Though there are no pandas around to chew it Out my window My beagle sniffs around, searching for scents in the grass Trying to find the elusive groundhogs and woodchucks Baying his successes for all to hear Out my window The rocks of the old foundation poke their tops out, covered in dirt The oldest things in the yard Where once was a farmhouse, now is a pit Clovers and weeds shoot from the dirt Rusty pipes stick out into the air Begging for the water that no longer flows through them Out my window Rafts gently make a spiral circut in the pure blue of the pool water The gray basketball hoop seems out of place The artificial plastic is highlighted against the ancient brown trunks of the tree Two squirrels chase each other in the branches of the old tree near the house Two holes can show squirrel heads that make the dogs crazy Chittering reaches my ears Out my window The old green shed is the roost for a pair of jabbering red cardinals When yesterday morning doves spent times there And years ago a wren laid her eggs In a shelf near the tools rarely used Out my window The brown tiles slant upwards to where my hand rests On the cool tiles that earlier were blazingly hot A hotbed for ideas When I need to be out in the open I step out of my window Onto my roof Into the world |
