A letter I wrote to someone before she went in for surgury.
Leslie is the woman that I live with right now while I am at school. She has been in a lot of pain for the last three years because of a fall at her job and she had to have surgery to correct it. She was really scared and on top of everything else is in a legal battle to get her workman's comp. They even told her that even though she could have the surgery, they would approve her stay in the hospital on a "day by day" basis. She has talked about the fact that she just wants to die because it would be easier than dealing with all the crap. As a final blow, the day before her surgery her only son said he wouldn't be able to come be with her. So, I felt compelled to write her this letter.
==================================================

Dear Leslie,

I know that you are feeling down right now, and I think anyone would be in your situation. I wanted to tell you a few things but felt they would be better said in a letter. First of all, you mean quite a bit to me. From the second I met you I liked you and knew that you had a wonderful heart. When no one else was willing to help me, a complete stranger said she would take me in. Most people would have turned their backs and said, “She’s not my problem.” Or “My life is too complicated as it is.” You have no idea what you taking me in meant to me. In the past month and a half, you have become like a second mother to me. You are forever a part of my family and I love you as such. I know that your life has been a very hard road but throughout it you have prevailed and I have no doubt that you will this time. You just have to keep that fire that you have and have faith. You have one of the most independent and stubborn – in a good way - people I know and I really look up to you. People think you are fearless and that can be hard to live up to but what I think you are is courageous. You face your fears head on… you kick ass and take names later. I think that is an awesome quality. Don’t lose that with this situation. Face your fears, have faith and know that regardless of what happens, there are people who love you and care about you and will be there for you throughout it all.

Love always,
And Get Well Soon,

P.S. Here’s a poem I wrote a while back when I was going through some hard times. I hope it helps.

When you feel lost and in despair...
Look to the sky.
When you feel that no one loves you...
Look to the sky.
When the pain seems unbearable…
Look to the sky.
When you think loneliness is your only friend...
Look to the sky.
When there's no one to talk to...
Look to the sky.
When no one will forgive your shortcomings...
Look to the sky.
When the world is dark and scary...
Look to the sky...
And He'll be there...
Waiting for you...
Listening to your hurts...
And Loving your everything.
