The Kingdom of Tech - a cautionary tale

a modern fable

In the kingdom of Future Promise, there arose a family of great power. The warlord Chan Ki Tech and his lieutenant, the Khan Puter dazzled the people with their abilities to provide answers many questions in a flash. Knowledge was at everyone’s fingertips with little or no effort. The people, lacking any understanding of how General Tech knew so much, just accepted what they were told by him and his Jester, Game Tech, who gradually took more and more of their time. The people were attracted by his make-believe world in which they win or hit the reset button. They found that one taste of this place made them always want to be there.

Tech’s family - Hi Tech, Lo Tech, Hack Yu Tech, and their sister Me Ling Less Tech. gradually came into the picture and strengthened Tech’s hold on the people’s minds. The Church of the Cloud came into being, and the people bowed down to this mighty container of all knowledge.

As the family grew their hold on society became more unyielding, the population gave in to their every whim and worshiped at the Tech altar, serving rather than being served. Soon people became blind to each other only able to communicate by use of Tech devices.

The addiction to the Tech dynasty rivaled the juice of the poppy and enslaved the people. No one could bear the absence of the Techs for even a few seconds. The people wore their devices, which they had made pretty. They competed to have the very best of them in their possession. Their devices were capable of tasks that the people couldn’t even imagine. At the direction of Hack U Tech – the black sheep of the family – crime found new ways to steal in a place that didn’t exist – the land of Cyber. Many came to live in that unreal place without understanding it.

Throughout this time, the Tho Ught Family was being devoured by Tech's search dogs, Goo Gal and Ba Ling. Their hunger for the Tho Ughts knew no bounds. Deep Tho Ught and Original Tho Ught were the first to go. The Dogs got so big that no Tho Ught was safe. The people feared having Tho Ughts in their own homes and replaced Tho Ughts with more devices. In time, the people forgot how to ask the questions for which these beasts found the answers.

The people wandered aimlessly, seeking their life in the crystal screens of their Ho Lee phones and Tab Lets, which had been passed down to them from Hi Tech Mountain. Many perished by failing to notice vehicles bearing down on them or cliffs in front of them. But this danger eventually stopped as the people became immobile.

Minds atrophied following the lead of legs. Civilization, as it had been known, stopped and circled the Black bowl of the universe on its way down the drain. Life as a function of Tech mechanics went on. No one noticed as Ob Liv Ion crept up and ended everything.
