Glory takes self-defense from a local policeman. 300 Words |
Doing The Unthinkable “Tell me the truth,” Paul Coster barked down at the woman in the chair. “I promise you, I did! Why don’t you believe me, Bill?” “Was that where you were yesterday?” Glory Harmen hesitated. Paul pounced on it. “So, if you weren’t there, where were you?” “I went for a long walk. I had some things to work out.” “Like leaving me and taking my kids? Well, I can tell you right now, that will never happen!” He reached out with both hands to grab her around her neck. She put up her hands in a prayer gesture under her chin to block his next move. Taken aback Paul stopped momentarily. “You have good instincts, Glory. That was the perfect move!” “I was shaking inside, Paul! “ “You couldn’t tell from my end!” “Does this mean I’m ready?” Glory asked. “If you think you are. I have confidence in you!” Glory sighed tremblingly. “You’re sure you don’t want police protection?” “No, you taught me all the defensive moves I need.” “Call me, if you need someone after. I’ll send one of my female colleagues.” Glory nodded mutely. The next day Officer Paul Coster’s cell rang. “It’s Glory. I confronted him. He pulled a knife on me!” “I’ll be there with a couple of squads!” “Bring your cuffs, I had to kill him.” Glory Harmen walked out of the station hours later a free woman in more ways than one. Paul handed her into his car and went around to the driver’s side. “I’ll take you home,” he said. “I can’t go home. It’s still a crime scene, right?” “A hotel then?” Glory gave him an address. “My mom will want to meet you and it’s the safest place I know for me to go.” “You got it!” |
