Wrote this a while back for the Cramp one day. We were supposed to write about an epitaph.
What words would grace my epitaph
if I passed away tomorrow?
Would words chiseled upon cold stone
reflect a life of sorrow?
Perhaps upon a marble slab
this sentiment would be recorded:
“Her soul was lost and full of strife,
an early burial was warranted.”

What words would grace my epitaph
if tomorrow I passed away?
Would words chiseled upon cold stone
reflect a life of pain?
Perhaps upon a marble slab
this sentiment would be recorded:
“Her soul carried a heavy weight,
a sadness that was unwanted.”

What words would grace my epitaph
if tomorrow was not meant for me?
Would words chiseled upon cold stone
reflect a life of melancholy?
Perhaps upon a marble slab
this sentiment would be recorded:
“Her soul bore turmoil and chaos
and no longer could she support it.”

What words would grace my epitaph
if tomorrow I would not see?
Would words chiseled upon cold stone
reflect a life of misery?
Perhaps upon a marble slab
this sentiment would be recorded:
“Her life was filled with deep despair,
she could not seem to surmount it.”

I cannot know what words they’d write
on the marker of my grave
But I would hope somehow, someway
you knew my fears have been allayed.
Sadness swirled about my days
and well into my nights,
but you were always there for me,
a shining beacon of light.

And once I’m gone, untethered and free
my spirit filled with grace,
my soul will dance within the clouds
and I’ll embrace this heavenly space.
