Every draft and challenge shapes you into the writer you aim to be.
As writers, we often dream big—publishing a bestseller, becoming a recognized author, or creating a masterpiece that stands the test of time. These are our "black belt" goals. But in our rush to get there, we sometimes forget the importance of starting as a "white belt" and appreciating the steps in between.

The truth is, no one becomes a black belt without first becoming a white belt. It’s in the early stages, the drafts that never see the light of day, the rejections, and the edits, that we build our craft. Each stage—the messy first draft, the endless rewrites, the small wins—is essential to our growth.

Skipping steps isn’t an option. Every milestone, no matter how small, shapes us into the writers we aspire to be. It’s in the struggle and persistence that we find our voice and develop the skills to achieve those big dreams.

Remember: a black belt is just a white belt who refused to give up. Keep showing up, keep writing, and celebrate each step of the process. Your persistence will take you further than you ever imagined.

How do you embrace the stages of your writing journey? Share your thoughts below—I’d love to hear them!
