"I didn’t see anything.”
My eyes widened as the man rounded the corner.

His eyes met mine, I shot a look at the large bag he had hoisted over his shoulder. Through the darkness I could not make out any inscription on the bag, however the jingle of coin was distinct. The crowbar in is opposite hand caught the glare of a streetlight. His awkward grip on the weapon showed he had no intent on using it.

As I looked back at the man's eyes, I saw.... life. There was love, fear, anguish, hate, and reason. The man was not doing this because he wanted to. He was doing this because he had to. Perhaps there was struggle in this man's life that has led him down this path of robbery. Who is to say I am any different. I have been cheated and taken advantage of. The fear of repercussion is the only thing holding me back from committing a similar act. Who am I to pass judgement on a fellow man.

I shoot my eyes up into the smoggy night sky.

"Don't worry, I didn't see anything" I say in a hushed voice.

The man hurries passed me, as I hear a coin fall by my feet.

A token of thanks.
