Com: You five will be the thirteenth and final squad to be sent out tomorrow. Be sure to be as prepared as possible, and stick to the plans we worked on. Our next contact will be after the mission is fully complete, success or failure. Command out.

[Command Disconnected.]

A: Unlucky 13, huh? Hopefully it's not a sign.

I: Don't jinx us! Everything 'll be fine.

E: Yeah. We're all professionals here, and we have who knows how many contingencies.

D: You say professional, but if I remember correctly it was you we had to drag back to camp last time after you leroy-jenkins'd your ass into the field.

[Laughter From All Parties.]

R: Yeah. Just don't make me have to pump you full of stims to keep you alive this time.

V: It would be very humorous, though.

///Audio Log – □□ Days Post Incident.///

Com: Listen. I know you lost people on the mission. But there's no chance either of you can hold up to them.

D: “It is always darkest just before the dawn.”

Com: If you go through with these plans, you'll be going against direct orders!

D: They took him, so I'll take something from them. An eye for an eye-

Com: -Makes the whole world blind! If you do this, you're not coming back from this! I-

[Command Comms Muted.]

D: Shut up. You wouldn't understand.

[Silence, with intermittent groans and grunts of pain. The sound of blood dripping echoes throughout the cockpit.]

V: Please. Don’t do this. You-

D: I have to. This is the only thing I can do. To avenge him.

V: You know he wouldn't want this.

D: And he’s not here to stop me.

[Vergil Comms Muted]

///Audio Log – □□ Days Post Incident.///

[The crunching of bones, splattering of flesh, and the groans of steel endlessly resound.]

D: Fuck… FUCK!

[Dante seems to hear something. The audio does not pick anything u.]

D: SHUT UP! It's not my fault… I… I…

[There is one last crunch, one last splatter, One last groan. Only the sound of dripping blood can be heard.]

D: Oh god… What have i done? How many… How many people have I…

[The sound of retching and subsequent vomiting Is heard. The ring of a message plays, but is dwarfed entirely.]

///Audio Log End.///

///Audio Log – □□ Days Post Incident.///

[The repetitive sound of shoveling can be heard.]

D: I’m glad we went back. They deserved this.

[All is silent but the sounds of shoveling and distant sounds of chatter.]

D: No matter how we feel about this, they need graves. With all they’ve done for us, they deserve it. Please.

R: …Yeah.

[There is the sound of another shovel being picked up, and the sound of shoveling intensifies. A small amount of time passes, and the sounds of shoveling end. The sound of clothing being removed, then summarily draped on can be heard.]

D: We can never forget what happened here. Never forgive them for what they did.
R: Never.

///Audio Log – □□ days until Persephone.///

D: He's leaving, is he? Good for him. Freedom, away from me, running away from all his problems.

[Sarchasm can be heard in his voice, but there is an undertone of sadness.]

V: You know that isn't why he-

D: I do. I do know why he did it, I do know that it's for his own safety.

V: Then why-

D: You know why. You've always known why. I know you see the expression on his face whenever he sees me. It pains him, every time a reminder of what we lost. It would be best if he no longer sees me.

V: …He asked me to bring you.

[A long silence drags into an infinitely long moment. The only thing that can be heard after is quiet, gentle sobs.]

///Audio Log End.///

///Audio Log – Persephone, □□ Days Post Recovery.///

D: I hated you, you know. Not because you did anything, but because you didn’t hate me.

J: I know.

D: Then why didn’t you say anything? Why didn’t you talk to me about it?

J: If hating me made you feel better, I was happy with settling for that.

D: …

J: You were all I had left, and I couldn't risk losing that. No matter what.

[The Sounds of the ruffling of clothing is heard.]

D: I… I'm sorry.

J: It's okay. It's all okay.
