Touring the Holocaust Museum After Finding Out He Was Jewish
Touring the Holocaust Museum After Finding Out He Was Jewish

39

Sam Adams found out via DNA testing
On Rosh Hashanah, he was part Jewish.
Maybe 10% according to the DNA test
confirming family lore.

He went to dinner with Jewish friends
Celebrating his first Rosh Hashana
As a Jewish man.

The next day while touring the holocaust museum
For the first time in his life
Sam Adams encountered three young white MAGA boys

Wearing red hats and making sexually suggestive jokes
About Jewish women, while they were touring
The holocaust museum on a class trip.

One wondered if the Nazi guards
Were given an opportunity
To have sex with Jewish women
Before they were killed.

Sam Adams was very angry
and wanted to confront the MAGA boys
But finally decided what the hell,

“Hey, why don’t you show some respect
The Jewish people were killed because
They were Jews.

I don’t understand how you can make
Horrible jokes about what you are seeing here.
You ought to be ashamed of yourselves
And you are not following the teachings
Of Christ.”

Their teacher came up and told his kids

“you know he is right, don’t you?
You should show some proper respect
Especially in this holly space.”

The MAGA kids apologized
And he went to finish his tour
The holocaust museum moved him deeply
And he vowed to himself
that he would do all he could to make sure
The world would never see another holocaust.

NEW PROMPT: Tomorrow, May 18, is International Museum Day. Write a story or poem about a trip to a museum (art or other type of museum, your choice) that goes horribly wrong, though turns out okay in the end.
