Different essential categories for story

Create a list of          definitions (see below) in an accessible format to edit and expand.
(2)Optional: Brainstorm and describe an object critical to the plot. Add to definitions list.
In your definitions list, you'll flesh out details you'll want to remember later for consistency. You won't have to dig through pages of scribbled notes to find whatever you decided about these definitions - they will all be compiled into a neat list/binder/database/note cards / whatever your favorite form of organization happens to be.
Example definitions for the Harry Potter series:
rules of magic
the Ministry of Magic
modes of transportation (apparition, Floo network, portkeys, flying, etc.)
the four Houses at Hogwarts
the sword of Gryffindor (note: this would also make a good plot background story)
Non-speculative examples requiring definitions:
a fictional student organization to which your protagonist belongs
the fictional company or division of the FBI for whom your protagonist works
the disease afflicting your protagonist, which is an actual condition you need to research
the antique artifact your protagonist intends to heist
NOTE: You can revise this list anytime, so this revision is not expected to be entirely accurate or complete.

Types of Fairies:
Elves Legend says that elves are the types of fairies that are the protectors and caretakers of the forest. They are tied to the specific forest they protect and live in groups. Elves are brilliant and agile. They have keener perceptions than humans but use their senses in nature and avoid technology.
Gnomes are highly connected to nature. They're earth elementals, so they're potent with anything related to the earth. If you want to work earth magic and befriend a gnome, they can help you grow super powerful.
Leprechauns appear as super small, aged men dressed in green or red. They often wear a pointed cap and love to smoke pipes. They're found in Ireland.
Ogres are hulking giants notorious for their quick tempers. When its rage is incited, an ogre lashes out in a frustrated tantrum until it runs out of objects or creatures to smash.
Pixies are only about four inches tall and tend to live in the gardens and woods.
Seelie Court is typically seen at twilight when they conduct their courtly processions. They're especially active during the spring and summer months. Most members of the Seelie Court enjoy beautiful things. They're all about stunning dresses and clothing, harmonious instruments, delicate flowers, and dances. The Seelie Court is made of the most beautiful types of fairies.
Trollkin resembles small trolls, though they do not hunch over, and their eyes often show a twinkle of humor rather than of sadistic hunger; unlike the oily hair of their savage ancestor, Trollkin hair ranges from jet black to bright orange, which they carefully groom and braid. While they do not try to eat everything like their less civilized kin, their metabolism forces them to eat much more than other races. This led to the saying, "the Trollkin guest," or a guest that overstays their hospitality.
Unseelie Court is the darker counterpart to the Seelie Court. The Unseelie Court comprises many fairies, but they're thought to attract lower types of fae such as Boggarts and Bogies. The Unseelie Court is considered ugly or even hideous and scarier. The court can comprise dark fairies and lost spirits, so they tend to be most active during autumn (Halloween) and winter.
Will O'Wisp is seen worldwide and known by many different names in diverse cultures. They will typically appear in groups.
