September Storms
After every major storm
Hits the US,
The religious right freaks out.

Declaring that this was God’s warning.
To end our heathen ways.

As 500-year storms
Fire events, earthquakes,
Seem to happen every year.

September for some reason
Appears to have the worst storms.
As the US coast prepares
For a Hurricane Lee
Making landfall

As a monster, Category Five storm
Or maybe not, as it may end up.
Just a hurricane, one or tropical storm
Despite the media hype.
But it is still quite dangerous.

In the middle of September
It is worth remembering.
Some of the worst storms
Occurred in September

Katrina,
The mother of all storms
hit the US in late August
And September 2005

Hurricane Ike in 2008
Hurricane Irma in 2017
And so many more

But, after each disaster,
We pick up and rebuild.
While the authorities warn
To be prepared for stormy weather.

We humans
Are not listening.
To God’s coded messages

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Hurricane Lee is currently a Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph. It is expected to weaken as it approaches the East Coast 1. The NHC has issued a warning for the Leeward Islands, which include the Virgin Islands, Anguilla, Saint Martin, and Saint Kitts 1. The storm’s effects will start to be felt along the US East Coast this weekend, with dangerous surf and rip currents expected beginning Sunday 1.

The United States has experienced several devastating hurricanes during September. Here are some of the most destructive hurricanes that hit the US during September:

1. Hurricane Katrina (2005): This was one of the deadliest and costliest hurricanes in US history. It made landfall on August 29, 2005, and caused widespread destruction in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The storm surge caused by Katrina led to catastrophic flooding in New Orleans and other areas, resulting in over 1,800 deaths and $125 billion in damages 12.
2. Hurricane Ike (2008): This hurricane made landfall on September 13, 2008, near Galveston, Texas. It caused extensive damage to the Texas coast and parts of Louisiana, resulting in over $38 billion in damages 3.
3. Hurricane Irma (2017): This was one of the strongest hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic Ocean. It made landfall on September 10, 2017, in the Florida Keys and caused widespread destruction across Florida. The storm resulted in over $50 billion in damages 3.
4. Hurricane Maria (2017): This hurricane made landfall on September 20, 2017, in Puerto Rico as a Category 4 storm. It caused widespread devastation across the island and resulted in over 3,000 deaths 3.

Note: this is a satirical look at the religious right portrayal of natural disasters as god's message to humanity.
