Devastating storms strike the US East
As a result of a severe weather outbreak, hundreds of thousands of people lost power and there were significant travel disruptions throughout the Eastern US.

Forecasts indicated that the fiercest storms could produce destructive hurricane-force wind gusts of up to 80 mph. As the storms pounded numerous states and significant urban regions with severe wind gusts reported up to 71 mph, including Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Charlotte, North Carolina, power disruptions and airline cancellations mounted dramatically.
