My dad died this past spring after a battle with lymphoma
Dear Grief,

I thought you were gone
like the last embers of a strong fire
Like the final lines
of a heavy somber song.

He was ill and then he just left
it was all so very quick
He had been seeing both demons and angels
while he lay sick

He was so afraid
it was quite strange
How someone in control
suddenly had to change

It still feels odd
that I no longer hear his voice
I didn't think we were close
but then there wasn't a choice

He was my dad
though not all memories were good: some were bad
But once in a while I still feel sad
bursting into tears but I am glad

He is not suffering anymore.
