I love them so!
Sisters - always there, whether you want them or not.
The oldest of four girls with only 5 years between us -
We lived, loved, fought and stood up for and to each other.

Then we grew up and went our separate ways -
Marriage, military, work, kids - being pulled in all directions.
It was a rare treat to get a call, if only just to say "hi" and "bye".

2021 was a sad year. We lost one of our own that spring.
Cancer is insidious, and it caused us to take a mental pause.
Mortality sometimes slaps us in the face, with dread consequences.

We got together for this last Christmas time, enjoying one another
As we hadn't in such a long time.
It was good to see my sisters, and there was a joyful pain in my heart.

The calls are still a treat, although they are more frequent than they've been.
I still recall memories of our childhood. I'm grateful now that we have a lifeline.
And I hope that it will be sooner rather than later when we see each other again.
