Observation while in Belfast.
Over the Trees of Belfast  Open in new Window.

Two birds fly above a carpet of verdant green,
Rooftop shingles, and red brick chimneys below.
One a large dove, the other small,
A sparrow, both artists of flight painting the air,
Sweeping wings painting the air
Over the trees of Belfast.

The dove with gentle arcing strokes brushes the sky,
Creating rings that only its friend can see.
The sparrow dips, colours the air
With its pointed precision in perfect control,
Always in perfect control
Over the trees of Belfast.

An end comes to the fun the two birds are playing,
One returns to the trees and one flies away.
A moment and the dove returns,
Inviting the sparrow to come back to their game,
Ever to play at their game
Over the trees of Belfast.
