the rest of the story
How could that be a feather calling to you, nonsense girl she thought. However, during lunch break, she could not help pulling the feather out and looking at it. She turned it over in her small hands multiple times, held it to her nose, and smelled it even, nothing. Oh well, she thought and put it back in her bag and the moment she did she got that feeling all over again like it was calling to her. So once again during recess she pulled it out again, this time she felt like someone or something was watching her. She looked to the left than to the right and saw nothing. She turned the feather over in her hands and again felt like she was being watched. Looking around she saw two small brown eyes watching her from across the street from behind a rose bush. Well, that was too much for Jessie and she quickly started to put the feather away, however not before her twin ran over and said"you still playing with that silly feather"? She rolled her eyes stuck out her tongue and said"what feather"? James knew better than to respond to this challenge so he asked her did she want to play tag instead. The two ran off to play tag and for a moment or two, the feather was forgotten.

Later that evening when the twins got home and Jessie and her brother were doing their homework and the feather was resting quietly on the desk. All of a sudden a small breeze came in through the open window and the feather began to lift off the desk. At first, this went unnoticed by the twins but something cause James to stop and look up for a moment, and when he did his chair hit the floor as he jumped up and slowly moved away from their shared desk. Jessie's head jerked up like what in the world. She slowly followed her brother's gaze to the still floating feather. Jessie who didn't scare easily reached out for the feather and it dipped to the left in mid-air to avoid being touched. This didn't stop her, she reached for it again, however, this time her brother grabbed her arm."Stopped"! her brother said shaking all over. She was so frustrated by her twin sometimes he was such a scaredy-cat. She pulled her arm away and reached for the turkey feather which at this point was back on the desk as if nothing had happened. What in the world, this was so odd, really really odd and James wanted nothing to do with this weirdness whatever it was.

He did however realize the adventurer in his sister would not let this go and most likely he would be dragged along for the ride. Sure enough, shortly after their homework was done his twin came to him wanting to investigate and find out what was going on with the feather. They both argued back and forth for like 20 mins when all of a sudden the same breeze as before came through the window and the feather began to raise off the desk yet again. This time it moved over to where the twins sit on their beds and then hovered just within the doorway of their room. Jessie followed of course trying to grab the feather. She couldn't and it proceeded to move to the hallway and down the stairs and out the front door with Jessie following. James was still in his room he refused to get caught up in this madness whatever it was, however, he did go look out the bedroom window to see his sister standing on the porch and he overheard his mom say to his sister to not go far and to be back before dinner. She quickly agreed and took off after the feather which lead her to the edge of the woods. James heard his mom yell upstairs that he needed to go with his sister so they could look out for each other. He took a deep breath slipped on his jacket and grabbed a jacket for his sister and a couple of bottled waters and 2 apples before heading out the door. He easily caught up to his sister that was still standing at the edge of the forest eyes wide. When he arrived he saw why there were two large turkeys about 2 feet tall with bright red feathers running all throughout the brown feathers. That wasn't too odd but the turkeys seem to be talking quietly among themselves and then they both turn their attention to the twins and said"hello".What no way turkeys can't talk, they just can't, but these sure were. James almost fainted but he didn't he took one of the bottles of water and slashed himself with some of the water." We are glad you have come because we need you the fate of turkey kind may be in your hands." The one speaking at the moment name was Big Feather and the others name was Red Feather.

This was so unreal and what were they even talking about? They would have to find out another time because their mom was calling for them to come home for dinner. Their mother wanted to know why they were in the woods and when she didn't get a response right away she knew they were up to something. She said nothing other than for them to be careful and for them not to go into the deep woods. They agreed and went to wash up for dinner. The twins were mostly quiet until dinner time when mom put a plate of turkey legs before them." I'm not hungry" said James who just couldn't eat after meeting the talking turkeys. Jessie had no problem eating the turkey but drew back after reaching for one and hearing her brother sigh and seeing his eyes fill with tears. So angrily and a little sad they both ate the fruits and veggies and bread on the table in silence after their mom said no one was leaving the table without eating something. Their older sister said nothing until after the twins were out of the shower and getting into their pj's. She came into their room in a very dramatic way pausing at the door for effect then stomping over to Jessie's bed. She never sit down but decided to stare the two down before stating that she knew something was up and she would be watching them. She then preceded to leave but not before giving them one more evil glare on her way out. The twins were just planning scared of their big sister even though they would never let on to her. She was so big, bossy, and just plain moody most of the time. Now they had her on their trail with everything else that had happened this was too much for James. James moved over to his bed and jumped under his covers not to be seen until the next morning.

The next morning James just wanted to stay in bed all day. He closed his eyes really tight even as the light was streaming in the window. Jessie was up and dresses already it seemed ad the covers were aggressively pulled off of him by his older sister".Look you, little runts, I am babysitting you all today so just stay out of my way and stay out of those woods" she growled. James rolled over No he was being babysitter by the sit-a -nator as they called her behind her back. She always tried to make them do all her chores they were able to do then she would make them set at their desk or on the living room couch reading book after book, while she talked on the phone, stuffed her face, and read teen magazines all day. This chick was not going to mess up their Thanksgiving vacation and as he looked in his sister's sad eye's he knew they were on the same page, they had to shake this teenage monster. At breakfast James and Jessie throw bacon into the washroom when their sister looked away for a moment and the dog came running wide open and made a b-line for the washroom, their sister let out a shrieking not the just cleaned laundry, she dashed after the dog and the twins dipped outside as fast as they could head toward the woods. A few moments later they heard the screen door slam and saw their sister looking back and forth across the yard for them. They knew later there would be a payday but right now they were free.

Once they were safe the twins decided to rest a moment, however, they didn't rest long before they heard a low "ello". What in the world they turned around and saw Red Feather watching them."Hello" said Jessie. The bird looked at her for a minute and said, "oh it's Hello well okay."
Before they could start a good conversation their big sister was there breathing hard and glaring at them. Before she could catch her breath to speak Red Feather spoke first. She was so shocked she kind of blacked out for a moment but only for a moment." Then she did something unexpected she took two big steps forward and said, "so you are going to be on the Thanksgiving table this year." A little shock Big Feather flew a few feet back from her while shaking his head."No, I doubt it he sid but maybe you should be on ours."Oh great a bird with a bad sense of humor, she said. She was frustrated with this whole conversation so she stalked back to the house but not before glaring at her brother and sister. She would have to do her own chores this day, however, she would make the twins pay for that later.

The twins were told all about the plot to wipe every turkey off the planet after John Feather joined them the chef of the turkeys or so he said. This was not good our planet needs every other creature and plant on the planet whether we know it or not. One inbalance and it could be dangerous for all. The chef shared how they had an ongoing war with the foxes that lived next door. It had all started when John Feather had set the leader of the foxes son up to fall in a pit made by man. It had to be done this fox was a good hunter and he was always cornering turkey after turkey without care killing them or dragging them off to their doom. John Feather was not a killer, however, he had decided he would let a man do his dirty work so to speak and the father had never forgiven him. It was unheard of for wildlife to team up with a man for any reason except for dogs of course and no one was happy about that decision either. They felt that dogs had sold out to the man for a warm bed, housing, and some food it was sick just plain sick. However, that is now what the turkeys were forced to do themselves. If they didn't get the help of mankind they would be wiped out completely. The turkeys also had to admit not all humans were bad, some didn't even eat meat so all of them couldn't be all bad clearly. Some also had special gifts it seemed every 15 years or so there would be a family that would come along that could talk to animals and understand them. The turkeys we're looking at two of the special people right now and the one big one in the big house of course she was horrid. They would have to see if she could win her over but not right now.
