Daily Flash Fiction: Prompt for 9-2-2021 299 Write a story that includes the words: roof, cup, wheel I Get it Now “What’s in the cup?” Reggie asked, looking at a new red cup sitting in the corner. “Don’t know,” said Libby looking up from the wheel. “You didn’t even look?” “Why should I? If it’s something good you or Tibby would take it, before I got my hands on it, and if it’s something crappy I don’t want it either.” “You are such a pessimist.” “The word is realist. You two think we live in this lovely place with lovely things and you prance around all day congratulating yourselves on how great your life is. Well, I do all the work making our life great. And don’t think I don’t notice who it is who ends up with all the good stuff that shows up here.” “What are you talking about?” “Well let’s take the apple slices. I said I loved apples and you two thought it was a hoot to see who could eat the most apples the quickest and then you tossed all the leftovers over the roof edge?” “You like apples? I never knew that?” “That’s because we never got apples before.” “Why didn’t you say?” “I thought ‘I love apples’ was saying!” “We thought you were kidding!” “And I suppose you thought I was kidding when I made our bed out of straw.” “We thought you were kidding then too.” “We were sleeping in the corner on newspapers...” “Honey... I’m sorry! We thought you were happy too. From now on we’ll all do things together! Mom, Dad and Tibby, our family. Tibby! Come on! We have a cup to explore with Mom!” Tibby came over. “I already looked, it was yummy. Did you guys want some? Sorry! Yummy!” off he went. The two adult hamsters looked at each other, and Dad said, “I get it now.” |
